‘He who says he abides in Him ought himself also to walk as He walked.’ 1 John 2:6

What a challenge these words have been this year since I read them on the 5th January. Hardly has a day gone past that I haven’t found myself being reminded of them through failure.

I confess my weakness but my desire, empowered by God’s Spirit is to meet their challenge.

Why don’t you join me jotting down what you know about how Jesus walked; His actions and His character and ask Him to empower us to walk like Him.

We have just returned from a busy two months in Kenya. It was during this period of concentrated activity that we found ourselves most challenged by John’s words above. Frustration and anger are never far away when much that can be achieved for the poor with little effort is selfishly delayed or blocked. We thank God that despite some such times of frustration much was achieved.

It is impossible to cover all that has happened. Those of you with access to the Kindfund website can read more in the news blog posted Repairing Solar at Blind Unitweekly to the site. For now we need to be selective.Sing praise new dormitory

Secondary Education features very large at the beginning of every new year as the poor who have done well in the 8 yrs of primary education struggle to find a way to continue their education and seek a means of escape from their poverty. Many fail to reach the goal but we have been able to send 18 new students on their way bringing to 42 the total number we are now supporting at a cost of £3000 for the first of three terms. We only have direct sponsors for 3 of these young people but believe this long term investment into their lives is the best way of lifting them from poverty. It is humbling to experience the amazement, disbelief and gratitude when we step in to send them on their way. Continue to pray for these young people. They know it is Jesus who has brought them this opportunity.

Blind Unit

No food, children boarding at the blind unit about to be sent home, overgrown grass and hedges, solar battery finished, new buildings unoccupied for want of some finishing touches and water supply broken. Six weeks and approximately £1000 later the home is transformed, water turned on, solar repaired and extended to the new buildings for the official opening, a varied diet established and children released from the bondage of neglect. In September last we put our toe in the water by sponsoring three children to this privately established blind residential unit attached to a Government Primary School (no Government support for the unit but specialist teachers supplied). We have now stepped in on the invitation of the Government to ensure all 14 of these children are fed and their premises maintained (no money paid, we will deliver food every two weeks to this unit 5 bumpy kms out of Isiolo).

We have been challenged by the Government to fill the new places from the visually impaired poor living in traditional villages without hope in Northern Kenya. Like the Deaf Primary School where we have just accepted a 9th child for sponsorship, a mixed Christian and Moslem school where we are free to bring the Good News of the Gospel.  Pray for these children that they will know Jesus.

Orphans

Builders moved on site at Wamba on 13th March. The 48 bed home will be ready for occupation by the time we are back in June. Pray that the building programme runs smoothly. We have taken every care to ensure it is well managed. The wait has been worthwhile as the bricks will now be made from a mixture of site soil and cement using hydraulic pressure (thanks to Stephen Cowan from Co Down who with wife Angelina and children are in their 18th yr at Tuum near Lake Turkana). This will save us £5000 on phase 1 and will give local employment where many have no work.

Glory now approx 16 months is thriving. She loves to clap and dance when we worship.

In partnership with a Kenyan family we are now supporting 46 orphans in their children’s home close to the Blind Unit outside Isiolo. A Christian family, they started the work of their own volition18 yrs ago. We have provided 12 new bed sets, repaired their solar, sent along a nurse, and are supplementing their food fortnightly. The family had been struggling to keep the home going, sponsor older orphans to Secondary and meet their own family commitments.

We were deeply saddened on our arrival in Kenya to learn that one of our young orphans had died from complications arising from HIV. Please pray for the 266 orphans on the programme. Despite our help we have been reminded that many remain vulnerable to the ravages of AIDS.

Samburu Community Primary School: we were pleased to visit the 150 children at this school via Ngaremara Gate and through Serena Game Park. We are looking forward to working with Janet the present sponsor as we become more involved this year.

Thank you for standing with us. Continue faithfully in prayer as the work increases to around 1200 on Kindfund programmes.  He is able:
