A modest beginning but more can be achieved with your support. Home for Orphans - Main project for 2007/08 We are working to provide a home for the most needy orphans and support for those who need it in their current home. On our programme we have two groups of three young children living home alone in Wamba and other orphans in unsatisfactory conditions with relatives. The opportunity to provide our first home at Wamba, Samburu District has materialised and plans are in preparation to begin the development in 2007 once all documentation is in place. Samburu County Council have recently confirmed the allocation of a 5 acre site at Wamba. The public health and planning authorities have passed our plans for a 48 bed home for the most needy orphans. The cost is estimated at 8.1m ks (approx £61k ) and application has recently been made to the Community Development Fund at Wamba for one third of the cost. We are in the middle of the land registration process which when complete will give us good title to the site on which we will build. On Thur 13th March 2008 builders moved on site at Wamba to complete phase 1 (48 bed dormitory) of the home project. expected to cost 3m ks and due for completion within 3 months. The home was completed at the beginning of Sept 08. Glory's Story
Glory is a seven month old baby orphan. Father died before birth. Mother died during childbirth never seeing the baby. She was taken to the local hospital and subsequently given to relatives. The Chief at Wamba called Nancy the Kindfund coordinator on 16th May 2007 and asked could we help. The relatives were poor and could not look after the baby. Already she was much underdeveloped and needed a good home and careful nursing to restore her to full health and her potential. Nancy collected Glory on 18th May and she is being looked after at our base in Ngaremara, 80kms South of Wamba until we have the home built at Wamba. Pray for Glory. Update on Glory: Glory has thrived with careful nursing by Lilian and is full of energy. In mid-Sept 07 she was walking holding to the furniture and ready to launch herself. We visited the Child Officer at Marallel and confirmed her status with us, obtaining birth certificate and completing other official documents. The Child Officer visited Glory in October at the Kindfund home in Ngaremara and was very happy with her condition and the facilities. In November Glory is now walking and full of energy. Thank you for your prayerful support. Regular updates on Glory are posted to the News Blog on this site. At June 2008 we are waiting to receive another girl, Mercy born in Wamba hospital in mid- May. Her mother and twin have died. Mercy now 4/5 months will enter the new home at the end of September 08. Second Home: In September 07 we began providing food for 46 orphans in a children's home in Isiolo. We had previously given a little support to the home. The management in the home need to retire and are seeking our help to continue the care of the children. We had a good meeting with management in January 2008 and have increased our support to provide all the main food requirements for the children. Initially as well as supplying food we have provided 12 new beds, mattresses, sheets and blankets and have repaired the Home's solar lighting supply. We were pleased to be able to arrange for a nurse to visit the home and treat the children for minor ailments. In July we carried out some minor repairs to the building.
