Thur 13th March Nairobi

The weekend had been one of preparation for our departure. Going through the details of each of our locations, working out budgets and visit arrangements and dealing with all the little things that would require financing for the next two months. I sat up late two nights completing spreadsheets on the computer and bringing them into line with our new accounting arrangements.

Mon 10th: Plenty still to do this morning before going to Isiolo to pay the accounts at the Uniform Shop and the General Engineers. After morning worship the usual queue. Time with Nancy and Cliff on the Wamba project. Explaining to staff some of the things we want completed in our absence and for those on piece work agreeing costs. Finally off to Isiolo in the heat of mid day.

Locham left to the matatu stand. He was going to Meru with a cheque to collect the spares for the hand pumps we had ordered from M Moti and a small generator we had agreed to purchase for various uses around the site. Past 1pm and most places closed for lunch so to the bank to move funds to the two new accounts and set up the arrangements for managing the Wamba building account. 1 hr 30 min later I felt like I could be wrung out with the heat but the new banking arrangements were in place. The General Engineers only charged us for the material for making the window poles for the blind unit. The rest was his contribution to the poor. We visited the Cereal Board and bought 3 bags of maize and two of beans 450 kgs. To the hardware supplier for two manhole covers and a section of waste pipe. Problems with our waste running to the septic tank so I have explained to the plumber what I want to cure it. He will complete next week.
Nancy shopping in town. It is after 5pm and Locham is on his way back. We pack the car. Electricity in the town has gone off so cannot file the blog at the internet. We set off back to base - 20kms, just as the sun is setting.

Pamela has completed most of the packing and we have been able to get more sponsor reports completed and photos. A number remain to be finished and to be posted to us at home

This evening Lillian has cooked a special meal and we all dine together and chat. There is much to be said. We hope to get away by 9am for Nairobi.
I work late again at the computer to update information. It remains very hot.

Tue 11th: We share for the last time at at morning worship and again a queue wanting to see us. We have to be very selective. We take our leave departing at 10am. Locham drives and Nancy and Cliff accompany us to Isiolo. Clifford is going on to Meru to start the builders.
Last soda together at Roots while we wait for the car from the Uniform shop. We say our goodbyes and leave for Nanyuki at 11.30.

Stop for 90 min at Nanyuki two call to do and then on to Nairobi with just one further stop at Karintina for scrambled and egg and toast. We arrive at ACK Guest House in Nairobi at 5.30 pm. Just in time to upload the last blog. After dinner we retire early.

Wed 12th: Dont want to get up this morning but have an appointment with solicitor at 10am. Back at 11am and back to bed we slept to 3.30pm. Still tired but forced ourselves up and out for a while. Spoke to Cliff in the evening all main purchases made and builders travelling to site today. Spoke to Stephen Cowan at Tuum. Duncan and he will travel to the site on MOn with the brick making machine. Back to sleep.

Thur 13th: Back to bed again after breakfast. Up at 10 am. and out in taxi to Nakamat at the junction (big supermarket etc.). A big piece of the West here in the outskirts of Nairobi. Still tired and back at 2.30. Another hour in bed and then Pamela calls Nancy. She is in Wamba. The building project has begun smoothly. Better than expected she says. She has brought the woman with the broken arm which set itself 3 months ago to the hospital along with Ibrahim from Archers Post to see about his operation to rectify a hair lip. She sounds good and is on top of things. Cliff is organising the funds to the planner at Marallel to ensure he sends the map to Nairobi on Monday.

We can leave content that operations are proceeding smoothly in our absence. We will keep in touch when we arrive home. Please pray for Nancy, Cliff, Lillian. Locham and Pamela as they lead various aspects of the work. Also the teams running the projects:
Kilimani childrens Home, The Blind Unit, The Deaf School, The Nursery schools, the orphans at Ngaremara, Archers and Wamba, The Samburu Primary School, the 40 children we are sponsoring through secondary education and the food for the elderly. Pray that God will make a way for his word to reach all on our programmes, now more than 1,000 children, young people and adults.

We are sad at leaving our family here but look forward to meeting our family and friends at home after 2 months.

Barikiwe

Ken and Pamela
