Kindfund

In 2007 various things came together to present Kindfund with the opportunity to develop Christian work among the young on Kindfund programmes. Up to that time we had been sending team members around the Turkana villages and into the Deaf School with the Gospel but we had no systematic programme or material to support the work. 

In Dec 2006 Cliff a young man of 23 yrs had just completed his secondary education. He had a desire to bring the Good News to children and young people in our area of operation. In Feb 2007 we asked him to take responsibility for the outreach to Kindfund children. 

Through Liz Crook and Stephen Scott members of the Kindfund management board in UK we were introduced to Sam Balmer from Ballinamallard, Co Fermanagh and the Postal Bible School (PBS). They had excellently presented bible lessons, non denominational in nature, covering the bible in three years and at four different levels from primary to senior. The material is in colour and very attractively presented.

When we saw it we immediately realised its potential if we could only get it to our area of operation in N Kenya. We were not disappointed. The reaction of Cliff and the children has been very positive. In an area where they have no access to such material it thrilled them. It was also greeted positively by the primary schools as both a resource for their religious education programmes and as a support for the children learning English. 

We had for most of 2007 been using photocopies of the material supplied by the PBS representative in Kenya however an interruption in the supply has given us the opportunity to work directly with PBS  and Sam at April 2008 has agreed to ship 48,000 lessons directly to Kindfund in Kenya. 

In Oct 2007 Cliff was sent on a 5 month YWAM (Youth with a Mission) discipleship course at Athy River in Kenya. He has returned with a clear calling to this work. In his absence we had recruited Kim to carry on the work. As the work has grown both these young men have a big challenge to reach the many children and young people being supported by Kindfund
