Already we have made arrangements for Linda and Sharon to travel to Nairobi this Thur.
We have been here in Wamba working with the children in the home and on the feeding programme since last Thur
It has been enjoyable and our schedule has included two visits per day to see Sube in hospital (please continue to pray for her). She seems to progress only to fall back again. At 6 yrs she has had a hard and difficult life. Today I paid the balance owing on the Catholic Hospital bill till June 57,000ks around £500 bringing to around £900 what we have paid for just 6 children and babies who have been in and out of the hospital in the last 6 months.
The other children have all been doing well and it is amazing to see the growth of them all.
James and Hannah have really got involved with the children playing games, participating in their daily evening fellowship and on Sunday speaking at the morning service and teaching new songs and memory verses. They have also enjoyed learning some new worship songs themselves and a lot of actions. Hannah has enjoyed the babies and James playing football and cricket as well as other games. Thanks to a bag load of games brought out with them.
Sharon has gone native with the children and Linda has enjoyed getting to know many of them individually. She has also done sterling work helping us to comply with the requirements of the Children's Act.
We have taken time to listen to our management team and meet as many of their requirements as we can. The builder will arrive today from Ngaremara with Locham to bring a tradesman to complete some small building works we will like finished. The major project will be the platform for 2 more 10k ltr tanks at the top of the site. At present water remains plentiful. We will use the area under the platform by filling in the walls between the pillars, as a dry store for bulk cereals. This will free up the internal room for spare clothes, shoes, blankets and sheets etc.
After Henrietta left earlier in the month Linda, Sharon, Pamela and I set off for the Rendille with Locham and two of our trainees Martha and Joslyn. Raphael had built a traditional junior house and Linda, Sharon and the two trainees enjoyed the home comforts on a mattress on the ground.
Martha and Joslyn under the direction of Lucy looked after us for 2 nights and days. We drew water from our newest borehole and visited our nursery schools and orphan feeding project. On the way North we were pleasently surprised to find the tarmac road up to 6kms North of Serilipy on the way to Merille. After a stop at Merille for emboga(cabbage) and potato stew and a soda(coke) we took the back road from Merille direct to Sokitey. On the way we had an emotional visit to Ntoyia at Ntumo village where we support a nursery school. You will remember Ntoyia is the young teenage girl with the tumour on her knee. We visited her lying in her Samburu home and prayed with her. Martha and Joslyn were much touched with seeing her again.
Of course no visit to Sokitey would be complete without at least one medical crises. In fact we had to make two runs to the Catholic hospital in Laisamis(45kms round trip) on consecutive days to take two children to hospital. One a urine difficulty and the other a deep sore running the full length of his shin lying open for more than 2 weeks and in urgent need of hospitalisation. Both were kept in.
The team enjoyed the Rendille experience and we were blessed by seeing a number of animals including 3 cheetahs at close range and again a hyena crossing our path on the return journey.
Amazing we completed Merille to Ngaremara in 1hr 45minutes.
There was a momentry panic when we discovered on Monday 13th at 2pm that we were due to collect James and Hannah at Nairobi airport at 7pm. We had somehow confused dates and thought we were to collect on Tue. Ken rushed off with Freda and Esther to give them the Nairobi experience as part of their training. On the hill up to Nanyuki a hose pipe blew off but the problem was quickly fixed and we were glad Locham had equipped us with 5 ltr of water. We eventually fought our way across Nairobi and arrived at the airport in the dark at 08.15pm just in time to meet James and Hannah. |
