Hi from beautifully cloudy and cool Nairobi.
We arrived here yesterday with Hannah and James and they caught the 11pm flight to Dubai.Already
they are on their way from Dubai to Birmingham. Pamela and I are taking the opportunity for some R and R for the first time in 6 weeks.
James and Hannah like all the visitors before them have been great assets and a blessing to the children. There were a few tears the night before leaving and even in the morning as they rose early to see the children before they left for school. There was lots of singing and dancing under the full moon that last night.
Since we returned from Wamba we have visited the Deaf School, the Blind home and some of the Nursery Schools We had to say goodbye to Linda and Sharon on 23rd and they have had a safe journey home where they have been reflecting on their Kindfund Kenya experience.
Some schools have now closed and the rest will close this week. We have had 4 children from the deaf school staying at Ngaremara this week as we made arrangements to get them home.
The site at Ngaremara continues to change as we complete capital works, the refurbishing of the classroom which had been used as a girls dormitory into a dining room which has included replacing the problematic louvered windows with wooden standard, repairing walls and floor, painting walls, floor and blackboard etc. Outside we continue to improve car and footpaths to avoid mud when it rains. On Tue am we commenced the foundations for the nursery school, small office and store outside the home beside the feeding shelter to release the original classroom for a library, lounge and reading area for the home. The cost of this project is £10k or 1,250,000ks. Praise God the rate improved and we were able to fix the price at 10k by transferring the money at the new rate.
Our big focus at Ngaremara is now identifying most needy orphans in the Ngaremara area to bring into the enlarged home. Already we have availed of the Nursery teachers in each of the villages to bring us names and details which are being prioritised for visits.
Joyce who has been managing the store and some administration since March has resigned from the end of July. She is going back to her home in Meru and hopes to resume her studies. We thank her for her support and work and pray God's blessing on her future.
We have asked Solomon the 4th Form leaver who we are supporting as a classroom assistant at Ngaremara Secondary to takeover the role during August when school is on holiday. He will train and oversee a new recruit to the post.
This am I have been to the Land Office here in Nairobi to progress the allottment letter for Wamba. The Asst Commissioner has agreed to sign it but he is on leave at present and we are depending on him calling in the office and having time to sign. Pray that this stage is now completed without further delay.
While in the Government Offices I received a call from Raphael. The boy with the bad leg wound is now ready for discharge from Laisamis hospital and the bill 2,750 needed to be paid. After talking to the administrator it was agreed that the boy could be released and the bill given to Raphael for us to pay when I visit within 2 weeks. Raphael also reported that the new hand pump had been vandalised when one of the locking bolts was not working. We agreed an action plan to put right.
On 9th Aug we have a small team from YWAM coming to speak to the teenagers in both our homes about teenage concerns and cultural practices. Pray for this aspect of the work which is so important for the future of our children.
Pray also for Sube still in Wamba hospital and remember us as we take a short break for R and R
Yours in Christ from Nairobi
Ken and Pamela
