A vibrant Christian witness throughout Northern Kenya with initial focus among the Turkana, Samburu and Rendille villages - an army of pastoralist children praising and worshipping the Lord (2010 we are seeing the beginning of this vision coming into being as we witness our children in the homes worshipping Jesus) HowShowing God’s wonderful kindness and love in action through supporting the social action God has placed in the heart of the local Christian community and empowering them to do the work.
Commencing in 2004 with support for one Nursery School at Ngaremara KIndfund has experienced favour to develop the support for 15 Nursery Schools, introduce and sustain a major daily meal programme for orphans at risk, develop two Children's Homes with a 3rd at planning, and support remote communities. In 2009 the need to do something for young girls at risk from traditional attitudes became very clear. We had already begun to build some new rooms at Ngaremara and we were able to change design to accommodate what was being revealed. Two orphan young teenagers girls came for refuge and with the support of the Chief and the Child Officer we had the beginning of something we had prayed much about. With the building just complete in mid March we had accomodation for 20 young people as well as improved accommodation for our new team. In May 2009 we took an additional 18 children into the new home developed at Ngaremara. At March 2010 we have almost completed a 50 bed home at Ngaremara and will move the children in by end April 2010. In 2010 we have taken advantage of the growth of Kindfund and the diversity of its work to design a training programme for young people to learn new skills on the job. As a result we have recruited six 15 to 18 yr old girls just completing Primary Education with insufficient marks to warrant sponsorship to Secondary education. Six girls saved from early marriage or abuse. They will be given training in 20 different skills, will study 1 day per week, they will keep a weekly log of their learning and will operate under the supervision of a Training Manager meeting together on a monthly basis. We have purchased relevent study books and appointed a retired University Professor living in Kenya to moderate the training for us. We have also taken a deaf girl just out of secondary education. She is supporting our Nursery School teacher at Ngaremara, residing on site and being encouraged to be involved in other ways - she has taken over responsibility for visiting the deaf primary in Isiolo (where ahe was educated) to bring the Good News on a weekly basis. At Ngaremara we have also taken a young man Charles who completed Secondary school in December to organise our sponsorship reports and to help the children in the evenings with their studies. Another young man has been given the opportunity to work as an apprentice alongside our builder. In 2008 Kindfund built the first permanent home for 48 of the most desperate orphans at Wamba where many are the innocent victims of AIDS. The first 12 children entered the home in October 2008. A Children's Home with 74 children in Isiolo and a Home for 15 Blind Children attached to a Primary School in Isiolo sre also sponsored. In 2007 Kindfund stretched North to support 20 nursery children among the Rendille West of Laisamis, 2 hours North from Archers Post. After two visits to Laisamis in July and September this was expanded to support three nursery schools and 202 children rising in September 08 to 8 nursery schools and over 550 children. In 2010 we have started a meal a day programme for 34 Rendille children at Sokitey a community in Losai National Park about 25 kms Weat of Laisamis. We have met local elders and the Government representatives to agree a plot of land at Sokitey where we will build a Children's Home. In March 2010 we have commissioned the digging of a borehole which will provide the water for the home. Our first stage will be to build a store and move the orphan programme to the site later in 2010. Kindfund dug a borehole and provided an Afridev handpump in a Rendille village in Feb 2008 and a further borehole and handpump at another needy village in August 2008 The installation of a pump at the new Ngaremara Seconfary School in February 2010 brings to 6 the number of boreholes and hand pumps installed . There are more opportunities among the Rendille who have little contact with the outside world and in other places. Please pray for these and other developments of the work. We know it is God's heart. Kindfund relates to the local community:
MethodThe Lord has given us a picture of the ‘London’s Eye’ fairground wheel with each seat representing the hub of a wheel. The hubs themselves represent larger villages/small towns with the spokes running out to the traditional villages in their areas. At all locations we seek to witness to the love of God in Christ. Three times a year during school holidays Bible Camps are organised at Ngaremara for young people on the programmes. In January 2010 two YWAM discipleship teams spent 2 weeks at Wamba and Ngaremara and Kindfund has entered discussions with one of the YWAM bases in Southern Kenya to form a partnership of outreach to the North. Pray for the vision for the labourers and for wisdom to discern God's will. |
